The Customer Self-Service (CSS) is a portal which allows customers of utility companies to interact with their utility services online. The customers can check their balance, pay their bills, consult their usage and much more. As no UX Designer was involved when the portal was first developed, a thorough redesign was needed to not only improve the User Experience itself, but also the visual attractiveness of the portal.

Mobile

The old design lacked responsive and adaptive screens. The new design has a mobile-first approach, tackling the previous shortcomings.

Most of the screens have a responsive design approach, while certain screens have an adaptive layout to ensure even the most complex tasks can easily be accomplished on a smaller screen.

Development

The Customer Self-Service is built with the Angular (2+) framework. To leverage the strength of the Angular framework, the design-approach is component-based, as this is also the case for the Angular framework. This ensures maximum re-usability throughout the entire web app.

Accessibility

To conform to the ADA (The Americans with Disabilities Act) and Section 508, the entire CSS web app was made accessible. As these compliancy policies have no strict requirements, WCAG 2.1 level AA was used as a guideline. This means CSS is now fully compliant with these policies and even gives an enhanced experience for users who work with screen readers.
